Jony Ive officially assumes role of Chief Design Officer

Jony Ive was promoted to Chief Design Officer — allowing him to oversee Apple’s entire design philosophy — nearly six weeks ago, and has now officially assumed the role. Alan Dye and Richard Howarth will now be managing day-to-day activities of the User Interface Design and Industrial Design teams respectively, reporting directly to Tim Cook.

Apple has updated Ive’s executive profile to reflect the change:

Jony is responsible for all design at Apple, including the look and feel of Apple hardware, user interface, packaging, major architectural projects such as Apple Campus 2 and Apple’s retail stores, as well as new ideas and future initiatives.

The Cupertino giant has also added executive for Dye and Howarth . With the promotion, Ive joins CEO Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri as the third C-level executive at Apple.
